Megan and her husband Clayton live in a 106-year-old home with their six-month-old daughter Ivy. Their home isn’t large, but Megan’s ability to play with white and natural light, as well as embrace the natural history and character in their home, bring a cozy, spacious, and clean feel to their home.

Megan and Clayton met in their senior year of college, were married just 11 months later, and within a few weeks of their marriage they began pursuing their foster care license.

“There is a huge need for foster parents,” Megan said, “even young foster parents.” The couple actively fosters while raising their own daughter, and Megan shares more about this on her Instagram page.

The couple also enjoys channeling their creativity to thrift and craft vintage touches that fit well with their home and family. For example, Megan designed and built the fireplace pictured above in the living room, from photos she had seen online.

“We love having a focal point that really cozies up the room,” she said, and zoomed in on the texture and molding that they chose to build that unique decorative touch.

Many of the furnishings in the house are thrifted. Megan said that there are only two small closets in the entire home, so she especially enjoys collecting vintage cabinets.

Facebook Marketplace is her go-to resource, and her advice to other thrifty shoppers is: “be patient, and know what you want.” Sometimes, she said, you have to be okay with having an empty space while you wait for the right thing to come up. Thankfully, you can set alerts in your Marketplace search to let you know when something new shows up within your search parameters.

Some of Megan’s favorite things in their house are the three-seasons porch, a potting table they found in their basement, and a farmhouse sink they found on Facebook Marketplace.

Megan and Clayton have also done a lot of work on their home themselves. They installed the flooring when Megan was 37 weeks pregnant with Ivy (it was easy, she said!) and she did a DIY countertop project from Young House Love.

In the nursery, you can really see Megan’s creativity coming to life with this beautiful light, restored cabinets, and faux wallpaper that help Ivy snuggle right in at night and go to sleep.

As always, mamas, remember that your home doesn’t have to be huge (or perfect) to be a beautiful, functional place that reflects your family’s needs and style. Thank you Megan for sharing your home with us!
