Hi! I’m Sarah.
I live in Superior Township, Michigan, in a home I designed and built with my husband, twin 6-year-olds, 4-year-old, 3-year-old, 2-year-old, and 8-month-old, with baby #7 on the way! In my first six years of marriage, I moved six times before landing in my forever home, and the one thing I learned along the way is that it is possible to make any house not only a home, but a beautiful one.
I haven’t always had a passion for design, but when I found myself home for the first time as a stay-at-home mom with twin daughters, I realized that if I was going to spend sunup to sundown in a cramped, Cleveland apartment, the space might as well be a place that fills me with joy and inspires me with beauty. From this unromantic genesis, my passion and love for all things home and for creating beautiful spaces emerged.
Since then, I have fallen in love with timeless, classic architecture, saturated and earthy shades of blues and greys and greens, the warm hue of antique brass, the classicism and character of wainscoting, and the warmth of natural wood and exposed brick. I think a giant spray of greenery adds a touch of life and romanticism to any space; and oversized built-ins filled with old books, artisanal pottery pieces, and layers of framed architectural sketches and vintage landscapes not only add character and dimension to a space, but also create a focal point for displaying memories and the pieces that reflect you and your family best.
I love creating small “moments” in a room that spark joy: such as a set of framed landscapes that transport you to a place you’ve been or a place you’d love to go; the organic branches of an olive tree silhouetted against the light streaming in from a large window; or a small, cozy corner tucked away with a weathered leather chair, chunky throw blanket, and a vase of overspilling hydrangeas for added color and life.
With soon-to-be seven children under age seven, I know that functionality and comfort are vital for everyday life, especially life with little ones, but believe neither must be compromised for beauty. To this end, I am always looking for creative ways to incorporate the not-so-beautiful essentials of everyday life into the design of the space. For example, I love concealing Costco-sized boxes of diapers and wipes into sophisticated built-in cabinets and drawers; and storing the ever-growing plethora of children’s books in oversized baskets and crates that not only add function, but flow seamlessly into the design.
As mamas, we are called to surround our children with the good, the true, and the beautiful, and what better place to start than home? If you surround your children with beauty, they will embrace a deeper appreciation for it, which will inevitably point them toward the beauty of the heavenly home that awaits them. Your home should be your favorite place to be, and I am passionate about helping you get there.
