“About a month ago, I was pureeing some baby food for my son. Knowing that our food processor is unnecessarily loud, I picked him up so that he would feel secure when this construction began. When the noise started, he was frightened and put his little chubby arms around my neck (as best he could) and laid his head on my chest. This was the first time that he had made a conscious response to fear or discomfort – that he showed his understanding that I protect him and keep him safe. Of course seeing him scared was sad, but it was this beautiful, tender moment that melted my heart.”
